Why Volunteering

International volunteer exchange   placements and work camps.

These are Community Development Projects that involves International Volunteers getting linked to the local community and church projects in a country. Volunteers take part in constructing churches, hospitals, schools and homes for the poor.   A work camp is a 1-4 weeks volunteer project. It’s a free labor people provide to given community, other wise it’s a cost if it’s done out of voluntary spirit. HHI works towards ensuring that every one has an   opportunity to volunteer and make a positive response in the community and beyond, to make concerns of local people into consideration

This program aims to give an opportunity to Christians  and students to function voluntarily in community at all levels hospitals, schools, Medias, organizations, publishing and companies. Such partnership include the organization of scheme focused  and multilateral long-term exchange of volunteers (i.e. on HIV/AIDS prevention activities, construction, home care, teaching in schools, working in hospitals, Youth Development projects, support groups, women groups, Human rights, solidarity projects, water and sanitation, environmental conservation , literacy classes and vocational trainings,)

The program also enable Christian students to have an opportunity of studying globally in Christian  schools, universities and institutions and to increase the participation of Adventist who are not in the position to afford and /or access voluntary service exchange program at a cost to spend a month or a year abroad, living with a family, attending schools or working in community.

Through this exchange program Christians and students will learn another language, learn about another culture of the host country, and make life-long friendship in the host family. School, organization and local community, and share their expertise and experience with others from around the world and while providing short-term volunteers with hands-on experience in humanitarian service

Volunteering is a place of learning experience. Young people need international exposure to the complicity of the modern societies. Through volunteering they receive education and experience and they become qualified to do a work. They learn to accept different values and become responsible, active and return home as effective witness. Friendship through these activities if shared is an experience between international and National Volunteers. It also helps young people to expose their ability to other culture.

To be a volunteer with MHH means to integrate in the life and work of hosting organizations and wider community, Volunteers are encouraged and supported to get involved in planning and managing of distinct activities, take part in staff meetings, and to take part on responsibilities according to their skills and interests, as well as to the needs of the project. An important aspect of voluntary service experience is the volunteer’s active participation in the life of the community / church in which he /she lives or works.

Through Volunteering, young people aged 18 to 35  with or with out qualifications after secondary schools or during university studies, have the opportunity to live in another country with a family or in a residential project, and work as a  volunteer in a wide variety of voluntary work organizations

Being a hosting organization, institution/church

The MHH exchange programmes will not be possible without families and voluntary service projects, which every year will continue to welcome in their homes and work places young foreign volunteers

In today’s globalized world, in which the knowledge of other cultures, customs and social situations is being indispensable, the MHH programmes endeavors to bring about open encounters between persons with different values and beliefs. Everybody subscribing to this philosophy is welcome to participate in our programs. Any family, regardless of its status and composition can become a host family. It only needs to be open and eager to learn about another culture, willing to provide a home environment, a bed, a space to live and study, and share your meals with “new member” of the family.

Organizations which believe in the importance of promoting international understanding and solidarity between peoples and nations, and are willing to offer young volunteers a place to live, work and learn together
