Samaritan children services (SCS) is an independent
initiative. Its mission is to support vulnerable Christian young people in
Uganda, through education support and functional skills training that aim to
inspire them to imagine a better future for themselves, their church, and their
communities and provide them with tools to help achieve their goals.

The
challenges
In our church, many
children have been and continue to be traumatized by the loss of their parents,
abandoned due to extreme poverty, some of our children are
migrants from Southern Sudan and children whose parents were attacked and
murdered by Konny’s rebels group in northern Uganda. More than 2 million people
were uprooted from their homes and most ended up living in camps that lacked
food, clean water, sanitation and education.
Thousands of children were kidnapped over the sequence of the
conflict and turned into soldiers, porters, cooks or sex slaves. Many
were killed or forced to harm or kill others, including their own relatives.
The heritage of the war
continues to be felt in northern Uganda and southern Sudan, where communities
that were decimated during the conflict have not fully recovered.
As a result, many children
are considered to be living in poverty. Poverty has a direct effect on their lives, as poor children have little
access to health services, education, feeding and many other important things
and these are major obstacle s to child survival, development, protection and
participation.

Without supporting and
empowering our children, in future they will live as beggars on the streets.
HHI provides:
Education to orphans and vulnerable children as their right to learn and develop in the structured and supportive environment of school.
Basic Services, on addition to education OVCs need shelter and access to basic services, these include services related to health (including psychological Health) nutrition and safe water and sanitation, and such children may also require legal advice and support. As they get older orphans need a way to earn an income.
Psychological support to orphans and children living with dying parents, who need compassion and support. This helps orphans to express their feelings openly- to us as friends, peer group or counselors, without fear of being stigmatized or discriminated against.
Caring environment OVC’s need the close relationship, personal care and cultural connections that families provide. Christian Home children are involved in decision that affects their future to help make decision about their own and their siblings, protection and care. In our centers orphans are accepted without regard to race, religion, ethnic background or national origin. The Home is located at Nansana 6 kms from Kampala on Hoima road.
